Posts
If you are using WordPress for your blog, you are going to use posts to deliver content to your audience. By design, posts are timely content. On the blog home page, posts are listed in chronological order.
Posts can also be seen in archives, categories, recent posts, and other widgets. Posts are designed to be very social. This is one of the best reasons they are ideal for blogs. In fact, they have a built-in comments section on each post. However, if you don’t want comments added to your posts, you do have the option to turn comments off as well. To encourage others to share your article, you can add a social network plug-in, which will allow your blog posts to be shared on social networks.
When you add posts in WordPress, your new article will appear in your RSS feed. This means that subscribers will be notified whenever you add new content. While creating posts, you also have the option to create custom templates. If you want to control the amount of posts that appear on your blog, you can control this under Reading settings.
Pages
Pages are also used to create content, but not the same type of content as posts. In fact, pages are best used to add timeless content. For example, a company’s About Us page, Privacy Policy, and Legal Disclaimers are all examples of timeless content. Pages differ from posts because you don’t typically want to allow comments on them. WordPress pages also don’t appear in your RSS feed. Unlike posts, pages are not listed chronologically. This type of content also doesn’t use tags or categories.
The one thing that holds true for both posts and pages is that there are no limits to the amount of pages or posts you can have on your WordPress homepage. While WordPress can seem intimidating at first, it truly isn’t. Simply understanding the differences between posts and pages will make WordPress exceptionally easy to understand.
