As a website owner, I’m sure you’ve come across the need to find the right images for your website. After all, images play an important role as it adds life to your website.
But hiring a professional photographer can be expensive. And sometimes, one image source just isn’t enough.
So I decided to put together a list of websites where you can find millions of stock-free images to use on your website for free!
These images are royalty free under the Creative Commons License. Keep in mind that some of the images may require attribution, so double check before using.
I purposely excluded premium websites like Shutterstock and Adobe Stock. These are also great resources if you are willing to pay.

A few tips when it comes to images:
1. Word of caution: Stray away from using Google Image Search for images for your website! If you do, there is a chance you might run into copyright issues which could be costly.
2. The size of your images can slow down your website so make sure you resize them before uploading to your site. Images from your camera are in high resolution and there’s no need to upload files that big. Resizing to 1920px width or smaller would be wise.
3. After resizing, I recommend you compress your images before uploading. For clients hosted with ShiftWeb, we already take care of this for you. But in case you’re not, check out a great, free tool to compress your images before uploading to your site: imagecompressor.com
